| How do I find a practitioner? The International Affiliation of Biodynamic Trainings (IABT), Michael Shea (michaelsheateaching.com), and the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America (BCTA/NA) websites each list their qualified practitioners by region. What kind of training is required? In order to be certified and registered with the IABT and the BCTA/NA, one must complete 700 hours of board-approved training. This includes detailed study in anatomy and physiology, the central nervous system and cranial nerves, embryology, birth dynamics and trauma resolution. 150 practice sessions are required outside of class, as well as reading and written homework. The teacher/student ratio in Biodynamic trainings is 1/4. Properly trained practitioners receive the designations Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist (BCST) from an IABT school, and/or Registered Craniosacral Therapist (RCST®) from the BCTA/NA. Are you moving my bones? No. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapists do not perform any manipulations of bones and membranes. Nor do they push muscle or connective tissue. We are trained to stay out of the way of the body's own agenda (not to force change). The client's system, however, can self-correct through the process. This is not the case with all craniosacral therapists. Do ask questions about length of training and style. |
